The Youth Cycling World Cup Competition Starts in Nyíregyháza on Wednesday

On Wednesday, the One Belt One Road Nations’ Cup cycling youth road world cup competition starts in Nyíregyháza, with a field of 78 people covering 232.8 kilometers in three days.

 

At the event’s press conference on Monday, Tünde Szabó, the government commissioner responsible for the complex development of the Northeast Hungarian Economic Development Zone – one of the competition’s patrons – said that Hungary is hosting the best of the youth for the third time, and it is slowly becoming a tradition that the competition creates opportunities for young Hungarians.

“The trend started by the government to bring as many international sports events as possible to Hungary is clearly paying off,” she added.

Mayor Ferenc Kovács highlighted the city’s commitment and love of sports.

“The organization of the Youth World Cup was extremely successful in 2020 and 2021, we have no doubts that it will be the same in 2022,” he explained.

Athletes from 12 nations will compete in the colors of 13 teams, in addition to the Hungarian national team, the MKB Cycling Team from Kecskemét will also start. Barnabás Vízer, sports director of the Hungarian Cycling Federation, also highlighted the importance of the competition from the point of view of Hungarian cyclists:

“The most important competitions of the U19 age group are the World Cups. This year, we will compete with perhaps the strongest Hungarian national team so far during the domestic round, the squad can be built around Márkó Tóth,” he said.

The ninth stage of the ten-round series starts with a 3.8-kilometer prologue in Nyíregyháza, followed by 111.6 kilometers between the county seat and Ibrány the next day. On the final day, the caravan will travel between Vásárosnamény and Nyíregyháza, covering 117.4 kilometers.
