Local News

Some special sound and lighting equipment are going to be installed into the exhibition halls of Déri Museum. The goal is to make the exhibitions a real experience for the visitors.

The old display cases in the local history exhibition halls will no longer be needed-the place will be completely transformed. For example, they are going to fit up workshops where visitors will be able to see craftsmen during work. The aim is to demonstrate what the different objects were used for, instead of merely exhibiting them. In a special room of the museum, interested ones will have the possibility to try different crafts.
On entering the decorated sepulchral chambers in the Egyptian section, visitors will be able to view the coffins of the mummies by the light of torch-like lamps. Also, they may admire they living space and the inner courtyard of a samurai mansion. Although the Munkácsy Hall is empty right now, the pictures will be exhibited later with some new lighting technique. The renovations will cost about 700 million HUF. The museum will open probably this year.
